²Ý "To describe Jimi Hendrix would require years Þ²
²Ý of filtering the man from the myth. He was an Þ²
²Ý apostle of brotherly love as sure as he knew Þ²
²Ý he was a bizarre sight in his tight black pants, Þ²
²Ý bright rainbow shirt and feathered hat. On Þ²
²Ý stage, he was a self-assured powerhouse of Þ²
²Ý sexual enticement... and excitement! Behind Þ²
²Ý the scenes, he was a self-taught guitarist who Þ²
²Ý read Isaac Asimov's science fiction, wanted to Þ²
²Ý retire young to buy real estate, and often Þ²
²Ý thought of going to Juilliard to learn theory and Þ²
²Ý composition. Jimi's erotic and explosive Þ²
²Ý on-stage performances breathed fire into a Þ²
²Ý generation already possessed by The Beatles, Þ²
²Ý The Rolling Stones, and The Who. Yet, Jimi Þ²
²Ý had to leave his own country to reach the Þ²
²Ý heights he knew he could attain. He left the Þ²
²Ý United States a barely known back-up musician, Þ²
²Ý and returned from England a superstar. The Jimi Þ²
²Ý Hendrix phenomenon was born. It was 1967 and Þ²
²Ý "Hey, Joe" had reached No. 4 on the British Þ²
²Ý charts. Jimi, along with Noel Redding on bass Þ²
²Ý and Mitch Mitchell on drums formed The Jimi Þ²
²Ý Hendrix Experience and created a brand of rock Þ²
²Ý often dubbed "space music." The Experience Þ²
²Ý made their American debut at Monterey Pop, and Þ²
²Ý if it was "space music" they played, then they Þ²
²Ý sent their audience into orbit with pulsating riffs Þ²
²Ý and sexual whisperings that had the crowds Þ²
²Ý reeling. The Experience broke up in 1968, but Þ²
²Ý Jimi's appearance at Woodstock, in 1969, is Þ²
²Ý considered one of his finest ever. His last public Þ²
²Ý performance came in 1970, at England's Isle of Þ²
²Ý Wight. Jimi was up all night for the opening of Þ²
²Ý his studio, Electric Ladyland, and delivered a Þ²
²Ý below par performance. He was simply tired, but Þ²
²Ý many people attributed it to Jimi's growing Þ²
²Ý depression and steady decline. Perhaps that Þ²
²Ý was also true. On September 18, just one Þ²
²Ý month later, James Marshall Hendrix was dead. Þ²
²Ý 27 years oldis too young for anybody to die. Yet, Þ²
²Ý in his mere three years in rock's limelight, Jimi Þ²
²Ý Hendrix left a musical legacy of riches that is still Þ²
²Ý winning over new fans today. Here is part of Þ²
²Ý that legacy... songs that reflect the passion, Þ²
²Ý pleasure, and pain of a rock legend. A treasury Þ²
²Ý that will keep the music and memory of Jimi Þ²
²Ý Hendrix alive forever." Þ²

²Ý "Here's the quintessential collection that's been Þ²
²Ý out of circulation for over 15 years! Early Jimi Þ²
²Ý Hendrix creations born from the heart and soul Þ²
²Ý of rock's Voodoo Child. Original songs that Jimi Þ²
²Ý recorded and previous hits he re-recorded -- not Þ²
²Ý out of a contractual agreement or public Þ²
²Ý demand -- but out of a private need. The need Þ²
²Ý to escape the world that was all-too-quickly Þ²
²Ý closing in on him. The need to unleash the Þ²
²Ý creativity that was consuming him. The need Þ²
²Ý to find peace in the sanctuary of his guitar." Þ²
